Silvia Prada at Percy

Our Fall Winter 2015 Guest Collaborator Silvia Prada is exhibiting at PERCY, Oakland.

GENERATION X is Prada’s long awaited first show in the Bay Area. The exhibition features exceptional portraits of teen idols of the 80's and early 90's in Prada’s classic monochromatic nostalgia-meets pop art manifestos. Prada playfully chronicles cultural iconography with the ardent reverence of a teen fan mixed with the obsession to detail of an anthropologist and the refined hand of an expressive illustrator.

GENERATION X’s celebration of this golden age is a fantastical glimpse into our past and an early grappling with celebrity identity and popular culture. Long before the digital era, these fresh faces stared out at many an adolescent from youthful tabloid pages, and they were frenetically wallpapered in bedrooms, lockers, and other guerrilla canvases in the 80s before becoming full fledged icons up until present day. Prada’s documentation of such moments is articulate, nuanced, and obsessively perfect.

Joining this exhibition is Prada’s wife and frequent collaborator, the talented musician Kim Ann Foxman, who has exclusively created 50 GENERATION X mix-tapes with her band project partner Andrew Potter. The duo’s soundtrack for this era of innocence and teenage dreams together with Prada’s Xeroxed cassette covers, make the tapes collectibles and are a true homage to the Xerox and Memorex years that preceded the turn of the century.

Prada’s 23 portraits are joined by an edition of unique GENERATION X objects as well as her previously produced books and zines. The portraits will also be featured in our Fall Winter 2015 collection, launching at 10 Corso Como in Milan this summer.
